Why Sustainable Cities are the future?

According to weforum, 70 percent of earth’s population will stay and live in cities by at least 2050. The UN has come up with goals as climate change and green house gases are destroying the earth and will continue to do so in the coming future if countries don’t act. Hence around the world, cities are innovating to help tackle challenges such as climate change. Some ideas being implemented are:

1)      Green building initiatives:

 2)      20 Minute Neighbor Hood:

 3)      Reducing usage of Plastic and recycling:

2 of the best Examples of Sustainable cities:

1)      Singapore:

Singapore is one the best examples in Asia and the world out there. One of the key areas Singapore has worked on is public transportation as the experience is like no other with continuous train and bus connections and ease of access many people use public transport to commute around. The government also has plans to place train stations 10 minutes away from any house. Singapore has also placed limit on the number of cars allowed per person/family and also at the same time made buying and owning cars expensive.

 2)      Stockholm:

Another good example, Sweden uses heat from centralized stations i.e. power stations to meet what every household need (heating and cooling) with 80% percent heating coming from these stations. Another way this city is on its way to achieve its sustainability targets is through promotions, conferences, and education of eco friendly ways which are aimed at Stockholm’s citizens.
