How to live a sustainable lifestyle?

Every hour we make choices in our lives that have a ripple effect across diverse aspects of our environment. From what we eat to how many children we decide to have, there’s a lot we can do to reduce the consequences of our butterfly effect. To do that is to live a sustainable lifestyle.

Living sustainably is to reduce your carbon footprint on earth so that the world lives to see another day so that we give future generations a chance for survival. If u do want to live sustainably but don’t know how to, don’t worry about it, we have got you covered.

As humans, we have been programmed to be greedy by using and consuming as much as we want, however, we want, whenever we want. But that has to stop, first things first we must reject fast fashion and buy sensibly. To go a step further we should also donate old items and clothes. We should also boycott brands that don’t operate sustainably, those who endanger the future of many species and those that making our world hotter than ever.

While at home we should use led lights, use rainwater for water consumption and use solar energy for energy consumption. Avoid air conditioners and heaters by using natural ventilation in the summer and overcoating in the winters. While eating we should also explore alternative meat options like plant-based synthetic meat or tofu and paneer. We must also look at soy milk or almond milk as alternative milk options. We must also use metal and reusable utensils and stop the one-time use of products altogether.

Speaking about avoiding one-time use products, we should stop plastic straws, cups and bags. We can use creatively designed cups that eliminate straws altogether, use jute bags and say no receipts while shopping. We should use reusable water bottles and buy canned soft drinks rather than bottled ones.

While travelling we should either switch to Electric cars or opt for ride-sharing and even mass transportation for that matter. For shorter trips bicycles and even walking is preferable.

After fulfilling our duties to the future generations on an individual level we can go one mile further, we can also get politically active and advocate for change one a more institutional level.

Living sustainably is to use as little as possible and replace those that you do use. It’s about making those small changes to your lifestyle that saves the butterfly along with minimising the butterfly’s effect.
